SEOUL, Sept. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — An increasing number of companies are taking proactive steps towards establishing resource recycling systems.

On Monday, LG Household & Health Care announced a significant initiative in which the company will utilize paper crafted from recycled aseptic drink boxes for its cosmetics and toothpaste packaging.

Aseptic boxes are typically employed as packaging for dairy products, such as milk and soy milk. Their popularity has been steadily rising due to their ability to preserve their contents over extended periods.

However, recycling these cartons presents a challenge, as they are composed of six layers of materials, including paper, aluminum foil, and polyethylene. Consequently, the recycling rate for these cartons has remained below 5 percent.

Recognizing the growing importance of eco-friendly consumption, especially among the MZ generation, LG Household & Health Care has taken the initiative to boost aseptic carton recycling, entering into a partnership agreement with Hansol Paper, a company equipped with recycling technology, as well as 11 food companies and the Korea Packaging Materials Recycling Business Cooperative.

Commencing next month, LG Household & Health Care will incorporate paper produced from recycled aseptic boxes into the packaging for its toothpaste brands Perio and Bamboo Salt. Furthermore, the company has ambitious plans to extend the use of recycled paper from aseptic boxes to cosmetics and holiday gift set packaging.

This move is anticipated to reduce the consumption of paper packaging materials by an impressive 181 tons annually.

It is worth noting that LG Household & Health Care has previously integrated cosmetic containers made from waste plastic pyrolysis oil into its products.

The company’s ongoing commitment to ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management is further evidenced by its expanded use of eco-friendly packaging materials.
