SEOUL, Nov. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics has introduced a new home ventilation system designed to improve indoor air quality in increasingly airtight residential spaces, as South Korea moves into the winter heating season and concerns over fine dust persist.

The company said Tuesday it will launch LG Premium Ventilation Plus, a system that filters outdoor air before bringing it indoors while expelling polluted indoor air — a function particularly useful in cold weather or in homes where opening windows is impractical.

At the core of the new model is an AI air-quality sensor that analyzes changes in real time, using pre-learned data on pollutants such as formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds. When the system detects a spike in pollution levels, it automatically activates or increases airflow to restore clean air.

Users can choose from multiple ventilation modes, including “natural breeze,” which relies on clean outdoor air, and “indoor circulation,” which purifies only indoor air when outdoor conditions are poor.

The system’s filtration unit incorporates UV nano sterilization technology, which LG says suppresses the growth of bacteria and viruses — including staphylococcus and klebsiella pneumoniae — by 99.99 percent.

An H14-grade HEPA filter removes 99.995 percent of ultrafine particles, while a specialized filter captures roadside pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide, a common concern in dense urban areas.

The ventilation unit is also designed to reduce heating and cooling costs. Tests conducted under Korean standards showed that it recovers 62–68 percent of cooling energy in summer and 75–82 percent of heating energy in winter by moderating the temperature of incoming air.

Ceiling-mounted diffusers open and close automatically depending on pollution levels in different rooms — such as living rooms, kitchens, or studies — to focus ventilation where it is needed most.

LG said the main body of the new model is roughly 20 percent smaller than its predecessor, and filters can be replaced with a single button press. A subscription service provides professional maintenance every six months, including internal cleaning, UV sterilization, deodorization, and filter replacement.

The release comes as Korean households increasingly prioritize indoor environmental management, following a string of high pollution episodes and rising interest in smart-home air-care solutions.
