SEOUL, Aug. 23 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics Inc.’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the LG V30, is expected to support the Korean-language edition of Google Assistant, a voice recognition program created by U.S. tech giant Google Inc., industry sources said Wednesday.

Google earlier said it will complete the development of the Korean edition of Google Assistant by the end of this year.

First showcased in May last year, Google Assistant is a voice recognition program running on artificial-intelligence technology. LG Electronics’ G6 smartphone, released in March, adopted the English version.

Users are able to make calls, play music, check the weather or surf the Internet by giving voice commands through Google Assistant.

Sources said the Korean version of Google Assistant will compete with Samsung Electronics Co.’s Bixby or Apple Inc.’s Siri in the domestic market.

LG Electronics in Seoul declined to confirm whether the LG V30 will actually come with the Korean edition of Google Assistant.
