SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire) — Pianist Lim Yunchan, the youngest winner ever to win the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, will release his first album under the Decca Classics record label, Universal Music Group said Wednesday.
The album, “Chopin: Etudes,” will come out on April 19, the company said, with one of the tracks, “Op.10 No.3 Tristesse,” or “Sadness,” being made public earlier in the day.
“Since young, I have always aspired to become a pianist with fundamentals, like Alfred Cortot, Ignaz Friedman … and Sergio Fiorentino,” who are like “the great universe to me” and “who played Chopin etudes,” Lim was quoted as saying.
“It is a great honor to record and publish Chopin’s etudes with Decca,” he said.
In October, Lim signed a contract with Decca Classics, a British record label established in 1929 and under Universal Music.
Lim is set to make his Carnegie Hall debut Wednesday (U.S. time) with an all-Chopin program of etudes.
