SEOUL, March 10 (Korea Bizwire– Organizers from the 2015 Goesan International Organic Expo plan to exhibit artificially-hatched longtail tadpole shrimps at the event, which is coordinated by the International Society of Organic Agriculture Research and Goesan-gun, and scheduled to take place in September.

Longtail tadpole shrimps, considered a living fossil due to their almost unchanged morphology over the last 70 million years, once disappeared from Korean waters due to pesticide use, and were designated as endangered in 2005. However, they have been spotted in rice paddies in a town called Ingeosoo in Goesan-gun since 2013.

The town is widely known for its organic farming, which started in 2010, and its clean environment, and has been acknowledged by the state as a member of the ‘Organic Clean Belt.’ The shrimp have been prospering, and were also spotted in large numbers last year.

To promote the town’s organic farming success and the resulting return of the once-missing living fossil, the expo committee is set to exhibit artificially hatched longtail tadpole shrimp, which will swim freely in aquariums at the ‘Biodiversity’ section of the expo, to be held from September 18 to October 11 in Goesan-gun. Eggs will be collected from the soil of the town’s rice paddies.
