Lodging Businesses Compete to Meet Demand for ‘Pet-cations’

SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Korea Bizwire)Tourism and accommodation businesses are locked in fierce competition for customers by introducing new facilities and package deals.

They are also introducing so-called ‘pet-cation’ packages that allow guests to bring pets to five-star hotels and resorts.

Sono Hotels & Resorts currently runs a pet hotel at Vivaldi Park ski resort in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, consisting of 157 guestrooms for both guests and pets. It also runs 24 ‘pet-cation’ guestrooms at Sono Calm Goyang in Gyeonggi Province.

The Grand Josun Busan introduced a pet-cation package that includes guestrooms that come with pet beds, mats, slide stairs, and minibars.

Good Choice Company, the operator of the namesake hotel reservation platform, reported a 118 percent increase in demand for guestrooms that allow pets since last year, amounting to 10 percent of all sales.
