NAMWON, Dec.29 (Korea Bizwire) – At a small village located in Namwon, questionable accidents of tires getting punctured have continued to occur since mid October.
At first the incidents were shaken off and thought to be as accidents. But as the number of victims of punctured tires exceeded 10 vehicles in a small village with just 30 households, the residents started to suspect that the punctured wheels were not an accident, but the action of someone damaging the tires on purpose. As the residents began to get their tires punctured more than once, they set out to get to the bottom of the case.
After detailed investigation, the residents found out that someone had scattered a thousand screw spikes at each of the two village entrances. A majority of the residents received damage to their vehicles, for they had to use one of the two entrances to enter the village.
Footage of a man driving a white Sonata was caught on CCTV. He drove to the village entrances and scattered the screws on the ground. However, due to the poor image resolution of the footage, the license plate on the car was illegible. According to the CCTV footage, the man had scattered the screws on October 16th, 23rd and November 9th.
After the residents reported the crime to the police, 530 white Sonatas in Namwon were investigated. But nothing was to be found.
On November 23, the crime occurred once again. The police immediately set out to find the store where the man had purchased the screws. After cavity searching the whole city, the police found out that ‘A’ (40) had bought screws at the hardware store near the village.
When ‘A’ was caught by the police, he confessed his crime. He confessed to scattering a total of 4,000 screws around the village entrance since mid October.
‘A’ confessed that his ex-girlfriend lived in the village. “I just came to visit her 3 months after the breakup. But all I saw was her getting out of another man’s car. I committed the crime because I was so mad.”
The Namwon Police arrested ‘A’ for property damage on December 28.
