SEOUL, July 4 (Korea Bizwire) — LS Cable & System Ltd., South Korea’s leading wire and cable manufacturer, said Sunday it would carry out a wooden cable drum recycling project as part of its efforts to strengthen environmental, social and governance (ESG) management through resource circulation.
Wooden drums are used in the process of storing and transporting cables. In general, the drums are disposed of after a single use.
LS Cable plans to set up an online platform On DRUM where used wooden drums can be traded, and start operating it from September.
If businesses or institutions upload information on empty drums after using cables, recycling companies collect, repackage, and supply them back to cable producers.
The state-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) will take part in this project on a trial basis.
LS Cable and KHNP on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding for the joint implementation of ESG management and resource circulation and agreed to cooperate in the collection and recycling of wooden drums at KHNP construction sites.
