BUSAN, Feb. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — A new survey has found that mackerel is the favorite fish of South Koreans, while Haeundae Beach is the go-to beach for many.
South Koreans chose mackerel, cutlassfish, and yellow corvina as their favorite fishes, while Busan and Incheon were picked as among the most popular marine cities, according to the ocean-themed survey conducted by Gallup Korea at the request of Pukyoung National University.
When it comes to beaches, Haeundae Beach was most highly thought of, followed by Gyeongpo Beach and Daecheon Beach.
South Koreans on average had a shallow understanding of the sea, however, according to the survey, as the findings called for more education and efforts to raise awareness of the marine environment.
“It was the very first comprehensive study into South Korean’s understanding of the sea,” an official at Pukyoung National University said.
The university is expected to use the findings for research projects in the future.
The survey was conducted last December with a margin of error of 3.1 percent.
