SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Korea Bizwire)Major flagship smartphones to be unveiled this year are anticipated to come with dual-lens cameras, industry watchers said Thursday, seeking to grab larger slices of the market by promoting top-notch photography features.

Industry watchers said Samsung Electronics Co.’s new flagship smartphone set to be showcased next week, presumably the Galaxy Note 8, will come with a dual-lens camera. It will mark the first time for the tech giant to apply the feature on its flagship models.

The South Korean tech giant is expected to apply a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens along with 12-megapixel telephoto lens on the back of the upcoming flagship smartphone, sources said.

They are also set to support Optical Image Stabilization, with their aperture standing at F1.7 — the same for the Galaxy S8 models. A lower number in aperture indicates that a camera is capable of gathering more light, leading to more vivid photos and videos.

The presumed Galaxy Note 8 is expected to adopt an 8-megapixel camera in the front with an auto-focus feature, sources added.

LG Electronics Inc., which plans to introduce the LG V30 later this month, also has been releasing various teasers highlighting the camera.

Samsung’s smaller South Korean rival said the V30 will come with an F1.6 aperture camera that will be 25 percent brighter than the F1.8 lens adopted by its predecessor, the LG V20.

LG added it adopted the Crystal Clear Lens for the rear camera to provide users with optimized color. The company said such glass-based material will allow the camera to capture more details of objects compared to other plastic-based lens. Glass lenses are also applied to high-end digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, it added.

Other significant features include Optical Image Stabilization, Electronic Image Stabilization and Laser Auto Focus.

The V30 will also have dual lenses, with the standard lens boasting a resolution of 16 megapixels and the wide-angle lens posting 13 megapixels. That of the front lens stands at 5 megapixels.

U.S. tech giant Apple Inc., which celebrates the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, has refrained from providing hints over its upcoming flagships. Industry watchers, however, expect the new phone may come with dual lenses as the iPhone 7 Plus.

Sources, however, said the new iPhone’s dual lenses are expected to be lined up vertically instead of horizontally.
