SEOUL, Apr. 26 (Korea Bizwire) – A lively street festival transforming the popular Myeong-dong district of Seoul into an open-air “pop-up store” kicks off on April 26, aiming to attract visitors with vibrant displays, performances and collaborative efforts between businesses and the local government.

The “Seoul Festa 2024 Myeong-dong Festival” runs through May 6 in the central Jung-gu district, turning major thoroughfares into pedestrian plazas decorated with red carpet-like flooring and installations that will give parts of the area the feel of an outdoor art gallery.

Organized jointly by the Jung-gu district office, Lotte Department Store, Seoul city government and local tourism associations, the 11-day event opens at 11 a.m. on April 26 with a marching band parade near Noon Square. It will be followed by a celebratory performance by the K-pop group One Million led by Lia Kim.

Other highlights include a “Re:EARTH” environmental campaign encouraging visitors to pick up litter in designated areas between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on May 2 and 3 in exchange for promotional giveaways.

A stamp tour will guide attendees to Myeong-dong’s top attractions, while social media promotions, free sample giveaways and other activations aim to draw foot traffic to the district known for its bustling street markets, restaurants and cosmetics shops.

“We have been continuously improving Myeong-dong to establish it as a world-class tourist destination, and now it’s time to enjoy it,” Jung-gu’s district head, Kim Kil-sung, said of the festival plans.

The Jung-gu office said it was working with private sponsors like the Alipay payments platform in organizing the event to coincide with the larger annual Seoul Festa celebration.
