Majority of Cigarette Vendors Say Warning Images Are “Too Disturbing”

SEOUL, April 21 (Korea Bizwire) – The vast majority of those who sell cigarettes have said that the latest cigarette pack warning images  introduced by the government are “too disturbing”.

According to a recent survey conducted on 300 respondents who were clerks and owners of cigarette stores, more than 77 percent said the pictorial warnings on cigarette packs are excessively graphic.

When asked about placement of the warning images, 71.3 percent responded that they should be placed on the lower part of the cigarette packs, and 36.4 percent explained that the lower placement of the warning images would decrease unpleasant feelings.

The more than 75 percent expressing worries about new regulations, including image warnings, claim that such regulations would have a negative effect on low-income earners and small businesses in Korea.
