SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — A new type of service plan is being introduced in the water purifier market, which is the core of the household rental market.
The water purifier market is expected to grow to around 10 trillion won (US$8.54 billion) next year.
Recently, major rental companies have discovered new demand from water purifier rental customers and have released a series of services that are segmented accordingly.
“Ruhens,” a rental brand of Wonbong, a water purifier manufacturer, provides a “tube care service” that removes rust and various foreign substances from external pipes connected to the water purifier with special equipment.
Although water purifier management service has been limited to devices until now, the new service is based on the fact that even water pipes connected outside water purifiers affect the performance and water quality of the device itself.
Meanwhile, Woongjin Coway Co. has launched a “Water Map Service,” which uses big data to recommend suitable water purifier filters and products for each customer.
It is a service that analyzes and collects water from various parts of South Korea to establish a database of water quality, checks the water quality environment of customers’ homes, and recommends filters and products accordingly.
Furthermore, Hyundai Rental Care Co., affiliated with Hyundai Department Store Group, will introduce a “female reassurance installation service” by collaborating with female technicians for the first time in the industry.
This is the first time in the rental industry that a large number of technicians have been hired as women, not just replacing filters or consulting customers, but specialized technical staff dedicated to setting up products and after-sales services.
Industry analysts believe that competition for services has become fiercer as the market for water purifier rentals has grown rapidly and the market for subscriptions to combined products that are linked to water purifiers is also growing.
It is also believed that service differentiation and innovation have become key differentiators, with the competitiveness of device performance and quality being somewhat upgraded in significance.
“For the rental industry, having a clear competitive edge in water purifiers, which are key products, is paramount,” an industry source said.
