Mask-free Beaches Already Bustling with Visitors

SEOUL, June 14 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s east coast is full of excitement as the operation of its beaches will return to normal for the first time in three years thanks to the lifting of social distancing rules.

The number of people who visited six cities and districts on the east coast of Gangwon Province, including Gangneung, Yangyang and Sokcho, reached 10,086,517 in the month of May, according to the Korea Tourism Organization’s data lab, up 1.61 million from a year ago.

By region, the number of visitors to Gangneung stood at 3,044,304, up 450,000 year on year, followed by Sokcho with 2,218,175, up 350,000, and Yangyang with 1,625,010, up 390,000.

In the meantime, the region’s beaches will open for 52 days starting from July 8.

According to the Gangwon Province’s Pan East Sea Regional Headquarters, 84 beaches on the east coast will open on July 8, starting from Gangneung and Yangyang, and close on August 28.

Some beaches will allow night swimming during the peak season from July 22 to August 7.
