McDonald’s Drive-thru in S. Korea to Adopt Hi-Pass System

SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Korea Bizwire)McDonald’s Korea said Thursday it will adopt the Hi-Pass, an automatic tolling system on major expressways, for its drive-thru (DT) service in South Korea.

The Korean unit of the global fast food giant McDonald’s signed a business agreement with Korea Expressway Corp., Shinhan Card Co. and KIS Information & Communication Inc. to introduce the DT Hi-Pass system.

Under terms of the agreement, the service will become available on McDonald’s Korea’s DT platform.

The Hi-Pass system allows drivers to pay tolls without having to stop at toll booths. So when a person enters a McDonald’s drive-thru and orders food, the payment will be made automatically with the Hi-Pass technology installed in the vehicle.

The system will be operated on a trial basis at two restaurants starting on Dec. 20 and expanded to as many as 30 restaurants across the country within the first half of next year.
