SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — Among major music streaming services, Melon ranked first in a recent survey in terms of the number of pay subscribers and user preferences in South Korea.
According to a survey conducted by the Record Label Industry Association of Korea of 1,500 pay subscribers for domestic music streaming services, Melon had the highest number of pay subscribers with 52.7 percent (duplicate choices permitted).
Following Melon were YouTube Music with 31.2 percent, Genie with 20.2 percent, FLO with 11.5 percent, Vibe with 9.2 percent and Bugs with 8 percent.
Global music streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify recorded 7.3 percent and 4.7 percent, respectively.
In response to a question asking about their favorite platform, the largest share of the participants (42.1 percent) selected Melon.
As for a question asking about the circumstances under which they listen to music, the largest share of the respondents (29.1 percent) said that they listen to music when they are bored, while the most popular time to listen to music was between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
In the meantime, 40.3 percent of the respondents said that they listen to music for 30 to 60 minutes a day on average.
