SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Korea Bizwire)Men and women have different perceptions of potential marriage partners who are well off but reluctant to spend their money, a survey showed Tuesday.

Matchmaking firm Bien-Aller conducted a survey of 516 single men and women, in which 52.3 percent of men thought positively of wealthy women reluctant to spend money as potential marriage partners.

Specific reasons included “thriftiness is preferable” (24 percent), and “promotes healthy livelihood” (28.3 percent).

In contrast, 54.6 percent of women thought negatively of wealthy men unwilling to spend money as potential marriage partners. They felt “life would feel dull” (29.1 percent) and that the man would look as if he was “worshipping money” (25.5 percent).

Close to one-third of male respondents said it would feel more trustworthy to marry a wealthy woman who was reluctant to spend money.

A majority of women said they would “spend money when they have to” (34.1 percent) or sought to “encourage their partners to spend money” (26 percent). Others said they “wouldn’t be bothered” (21.3 percent), or felt “trustworthy” (18.6 percent).

“A number of women who expect to live a wealthy life through marriage will not think of ‘misers’ as an ideal marriage partner,” Bien-Aller said.
