SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Korea Bizwire)Several male recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine are struggling with severe hair loss.

A 23-year-old man surnamed Ahn, began experiencing hair loss two weeks after being vaccinated with the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Moderna Inc. last October.

The hair loss continued, and after two weeks, his girlfriend told him that almost all of the hair on the side of his head had fallen out.

He has since visited two hospitals to look into the connection between the vaccine and hair loss, as recommended by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The hospitals said they were unable to confirm a link between the vaccine and his hair loss, telling him that he didn’t qualify compensation.

“I know that many people have been experiencing hair loss after getting the vaccine. I wish the authorities would take this case seriously,” he said.

A 27-year-old man surnamed Bae has also been struggling with hair loss after getting a second shot of the Pfizer vaccine on Jan. 4.

“People at the hair salon told me I was losing a lot of hair. Three days later, I could seea bald spot spreading from the crown of my head. Now, it’s gotten as big as 4 to 5 centimeters wide,” he said.

Rep. Kang Sun-woo of the ruling Democratic Party said there have been some 240 reports of hair loss following vaccinations, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
