SEOUL, Oct. 8 (Korea Bizwire)Mercedes-Benz said Monday it will open a driving academy for customers in South Korea next month as part of efforts to boost sales in the growing Asian market.

Mercedes-Benz Korea plans to launch three programs — AMG Performance, AMG Advanced and AMG for Ladies — in the AMG Driving Academy at the AMG Speedway in Yongin, 50 kilometers south of Seoul, starting from November, the company said in a statement.

To attend the AMG Performance program, participants are required to pay 1 million won (US$880) for a one-day coupon to experience high-performance AMG models, it said.

Those who undergo the AMG Performance program are able to apply for the AMG Advanced program, which takes two days and kicks off in 2019. The participation fees have not been decided yet. The AMG for Ladies is a women-exclusive program that costs 600,000 won per day, the company said.

Mercedes-Benz has done well in Asia’s fourth-biggest economy amid growing local appetite for luxury vehicles.

In the January-September period, the carmaker sold a total of 50,746 vehicles, down 6.1 percent from 54,067 units a year earlier. The monthly sales result was affected by fewer working days in September as the Chuseok holidays fell on the last week of the month.
