SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Korea Bizwire)The military has deployed an upgraded radar system for units monitoring coastal areas to bolster their operational capabilities, the state arms procurement agency said Friday.

The system completed deployment late last month at various Army and Navy units stationed near the coast and on islands as part of a project that began in 2022 to enhance performances of aging military equipment, according to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

Through the project, the radar system has undergone overall performance upgrades, with its maximum range increasing by about 30 percent and the system being able to track 2.5 times more radar trails, DAPA said.

South Korea is surrounded by waters on three of its sides, making coastal surveillance an important part of military operations.
