SEOUL, Oct. 6 (Korea Bizwire)Chilgok County Mayor Kim Jae-wook on Wednesday posted a photo of a fallen hero of the 1950-53 Korean War on social media, moving the hearts of many.

The deceased soldier in the photo was found crouching after being shot. The soldier’s boots were still in good condition.

The soldier fell during the Dabudong Battle in Chilgok, about 290 kilometers southeast of Seoul, in the year 1950. He was discovered by service members from the Army’s 50th Infantry Division last month.

South Korea has identified the remains of some 13,000 fallen soldiers killed in the conflict since the excavation work began in 2000, 10 percent of whom have been found in Chilgok, an indication of how fierce the battle was.

“We hope that the owner of these boots will be identified and his body returned to the arms of his family,” Kim said.
