Millennials, Gen Z Have Different Patterns of Smartphone Use: Survey

SEOUL, Dec. 28 (Korea Bizwire)The “MZ generation” is a Korean term refers to millennials and Generation Z but a recent smartphone usage analysis showed that the lifestyle of the two groups is distinctively different.

Local pollster Open Survey conducted on an online survey of 600 millennials and 600 people from Generation Z, which showed that 52.2 percent of Gen Zers use Apple Inc.’s iPhones while 42.7 percent use Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy smartphones.

Another 53.3 percent were willing to buy an iPhone in the future while 44 percent wanted to buy a Galaxy smartphone.

Women from Generation Z had a higher preference for iPhones.

In contrast, 53.3 percent of millennials used Galaxy smartphones, while 43.3 percent used iPhones. Another 55.7 percent wanted to buy a Galaxy smartphone in the future while 42.7 percent wanted to buy an iPhone.

The most frequently used apps among Generation Z were video-related (73.3 percent), followed by social media apps (54 percent) and messenger apps (48.3 percent).

Among millennials, the most frequently used apps were messenger apps (62.5 percent), followed by video apps (60.5 percent) and social media apps (39.3 percent).

“Millennials are using mobile messengers more frequently than social media apps as they dive into society, expanding their social engagement,” an industry source said.

Music and games were the fourth and fifth most frequently used apps for both millennials and Generation Z.
