More Koreans Developing Green Thumbs During Pandemic Era

SEOUL, Nov. 24 (Korea Bizwire)More than half of all South Korean consumers have become more interested in growing plants following the coronavirus outbreak.

The National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science conducted a survey of 726 consumers of agricultural products, 41.7 percent of whom said they had heard of the term ‘pet plant’ and know what it means.

At 51.1 percent, more than half of the respondents said they had become more interested in cultivating plants since the start of the pandemic era, with 61.1 percent of those in their 20s and 30s saying likewise, surpassing those in their 60s (46.3 percent).

Respondents distinguished ‘pet plants’ from other plants at home based on the level of affection they have for them (43.1 percent), followed by the level of human-plant interaction (25.3 percent) and the frequency of management (11.8 percent).
