SEOUL, Dec. 30 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean researchers have revealed that people who drink more than two cups of coffee every day are less likely to suffer from dementia.

A joint research team from Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital and Seoul National University College of Medicine divided 411 participants between the ages of 55 and 90 into two groups of those who drink more than two cups of coffee each day (269 people) and those who don’t (142 people).

The team then conducted positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the members of each group to compare the amount of β-amyloid, a substance known to cause Alzheimer’s disease, in the brain.

The results showed that people who drink less than two cups of coffee each day are three times more exposed to the risk of accumulating β-amyloid in the brain than the opposite group.
