SEOUL, Feb. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — According to the National Fire Agency on Wednesday, there were 6,883 people sent to the hospital with the help of 119 emergency teams after suffering from dog bites over the past three years.
More than 2,000 people suffered from dog bites each year, with 2,111 cases in 2016, 2,404 cases in 2017, and 2,368 in 2018.
The agency advised that if bitten by a dog, the wound should be immediately washed under running water and the bleeding area should be treated at a hospital after first-aid treatment, such as applying pressure with disinfected gauze.
Furthermore, children and dogs should not be left alone without supervision and dog owners must use collars and muzzles when taking their dogs out.
