SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Korea Bizwire)More than half of all South Koreans believe that they should join the U.S. diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympics, a survey showed Monday.

The Korea Society Opinion Institute conducted a survey of 1,004 Koreans over 18 years of age, 50.9 percent of whom said the country should join the U.S. boycott against the Olympics in February.

One third of the respondents said the country should not join the boycott in consideration of South Korea-China relations.

Among supporters of the ruling Democratic Party, 36.9 percent wanted to join the boycott while 48.9 percent did not, leaning towards upholding South Korea-China relations.

Among supporters of the conservative main opposition People Power Party, 72.1 percent wanted to join the boycott while only 16.7 percent did not.

Across all regions and age groups, more people supported the idea of joining the boycott than those who opposed it.

Among those in their 40s and 50s, however, the gap was minimal.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in, currently visiting Australia, has said the government is not considering a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
