Most Car Owners Drive Less than 2 Hours a Day: Survey

SEOUL, May 16 (Korea Bizwire)A majority of South Korean car owners drive less than two hours a day, a survey showed Monday.

Car-sharing and mobility service provider SOCAR Inc. conducted a survey of 1,200 men and women aged 25 to 54 with driver’s licenses, revealing that 68 percent drive less than 10 hours per week.

Among the respondents, 19.1 percent reported driving less than 15 hours weekly, indicating that almost 90 percent of people drive less than two hours per day.

A majority of car owners (59.8 percent) believed that car ownership leads to traffic congestion, environmental issues, and other social costs.

Furthermore, 61.4 percent of all driver’s license holders agreed that car sharing is essential for society, with 43.8 percent believing that it can replace the need for a second car.

Nearly half (48.3 percent) of those born in the 1990s, who are more familiar with car sharing, believed that it can replace second cars, surpassing the response indicating that a second car is irreplaceable (24.5 percent).
