POHANG, Dec. 20 (Korea Bizwire) – An inter-university research team has successfully incorporated motion sensors with morse code to open up the possibility of two-way communication with victims of full-body paralysis.
Researchers from Postech and Chungnam National University made the announcement on December 19, with the details of their research included in the scientific journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.
To develop hypersensitive sensors that are capable of detecting even the most minor body movements, the researchers said they studied the legs of spiders, as the eight-legged animal’s sense of touch is known to be extremely refined.

The full-body sensors can effectively detect the pulse of the human body, and can also read body movements like tremors or the shifting of joints.

Professor Lim Geun-bae of Pohang University of Science and Technology (Postech) said, “[The technology] can be implemented in multiple fields, and its modest production costs and simple method of utilization will help it become widely used.”
