Movie Theaters Adopt a Number of Initiatives to Protect the Environment

SEOUL, June 3 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s major multiplex chains are engaged in the development of various goods and events to promote environmental protection ahead of World Environment Day, which falls on June 5.

CJ CGV is continuing its initiative of releasing eco-friendly goods made of waste resources such as waste screens.

The cinema chain joined hands with a local startup F5 LAB to release eco-friendly bags and mats that are made by recycling old projection screens.

CJ CGV rolled out its second upcycled product following a bag made of projection screens that was released in January.

Lotte Cinema is set to launch a pilot program at its Konkuk University Star City branch in Seoul through which customers can select multi-use cups instead of single-use cups when they buy beverages at the concession stand.

After use, customers can return the multi-use cups at dedicated collection containers.

Megabox plans to launch a special event from June 5 to 27 during which it will sell soft drinks at a price of 1,000 won (US$0.90) to customers who bring their own cup and popcorn at a price of 2,000 won to those who bring multi-use containers.
