SEOUL, March 28 (Korea Bizwire)North Korea has emphasized an appropriate dress code for its citizens to protect the ideology and culture of socialism as well as to prevent the loosening of social atmosphere.

The Rodong Sinmun, an organ of the North’s ruling Worker’s Party, recently stressed that it was important for the citizens to wear clothes in a noble and courteous manner to elevate the tone of public morals throughout society.

The newspaper emphasized that people with a healthy ideological mind, high cultural literacy and noble moral character always keep their attire clean and noble.

The newspaper went on to urge all North Koreans to adopt proper attire, saying, “All members of society always pay deep attention to dressing well on the basis of national pride in excellent cultural traditions and building up a civilization of socialism.”

This move reflects the concern about the weakening of the regime’s solidarity as the number of North Korean residents who follow the dress and speech style of South Koreans increases.

In January, the North Korean government warned its residents that it would strengthen the crackdown on the use of foreign-style speech, including South Korean words.
