SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — North Korea has claimed that Netflix’s original series “Squid Game” exposes the uncomfortable truth behind the South Korean society and the capitalist regime, without mentioning the series’ worldwide fame.
Meari, a North Korean propaganda website, claimed Tuesday that the series’ popularity is based on “the extreme competition for survival in South Korea and its capitalist regime.”
The propaganda outlet, referring to the series’ synopsis about how a massive award is given to a single winner in a competition among financially stricken participants, claimed that it embodies “the South Korean society in which humanity is being replaced with barbarism as people are pushed to the edge of extreme competition.”
It also described the rich people in the series as “people who enjoy a grotesque slaughter game in which everyone except for the winner should die, inciting anger towards inequality.”
