SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Korea Bizwire) – North Korea has named two national players who won silver medals in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games mixed doubles event as among the top 10 athletes of the year, state media reported Wednesday.
Ri Jong-sik and Kim Kum-yong, who brought home North Korea’s first medal in the Paris Olympics, were named among the top 10 players for 2024 Tuesday, according to the North’s Rodong Sinmun newspaper.
The duo made global media headlines after posing for a selfie with the Chinese gold and South Korean bronze medalists in the table tennis mixed doubles event following the medal ceremony.
The top 10 list also included Jo Jin-mi and Kim Mi-rae, the synchronized 10-meter platform diving silver medalists at the Paris Olympics, as well as three gold medalists from the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships held in Manama, Bahrain.
Two female footballers also made it to the list after the national women’s football team won the Under-17 Women’s World Cup last year.
