NAMHAE, March 23 (Korea Bizwire)Namhae County in South Gyeongsang Province said Wednesday that it will operate a 100-won (US$0.08) cab program for students to return home at night.

The free taxis program is exclusively available in the county, where there is a lack of sufficient means of public transportation.

Middle school and high school students going home after evening studies can take a taxi for just 100 won, regardless of their destination. The rest of the fare will be paid by the county.

This year, three middle schools and four high schools have signed up for the program, while five taxi companies are also on board.

The program has been in operation since 2018, primarily for students engaging in evening studies.

The program began to cover taxi charges for middle school students in 2021, winning great support from parents.
