BOEUN, March 10 (Korea Bizwire) — A national park reservoir has been overcome by a rapidly proliferating bass population that is destroying the local carp habitat.
Songnisan National Park in response has stepped up to invite anglers from across the country to capture the predator species.
Starting Tuesday, the park began buying bass caught by fishermen from a reservoir inside the park.
Bass fishing is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The park gives out safety jackets to whoever comes to fish.
Fishers should take a photo of themselves at the reservoir with bass they catch as proof. The park has decided to give out a gift certificate of 10,000 won (US$8.74) for every 2 kilograms of bass caught.
