SEOUL, July 29 (Korea Bizwire) — The National Police Agency on Thursday started issuing mobile driver’s licenses at 27 driver’s license examination centers and 258 police stations nationwide.
Mobile driver’s licenses are issued onto a personal smartphone, in accordance with the Road Traffic Act and they carry the same legal validity as an actual license card.
The mobile licenses use blockchain technology and encryption for security and can be issued onto a single mobile phone registered in the owner’s name.
In case the owner loses their smartphone, the mobile license will be locked and made unavailable on the screen.
Anyone wishing to issue a mobile driver’s license should go through a proper identification procedure at a local driver’s license examination center or a police station.
After installing the “Mobile ID (Driver’s License)” app, a digital license can be issued via an IC (integrated circuit) license or by scanning a QR code issued by a local driver’s license examination center.
