SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Korea Bizwire) Naver, the largest portal site in South Korea, plans to continue to operate a pilot scheme of “task-oriented free work schedule” until the end of this year.

The company announced on November 3 that it would prolong the scheme with the goal of implementing an official flexible work-hour plan in 2015. During the pilot program, the company will complement weaknesses in the scheme as it finds them.

The scheme run from last August is the flexible-time work schedule focusing on task rather than workhours. Under the new plan, employees don’t have to stick to the rigid nine-to-six working hours. Rather, they can work whenever they want depending on their tasks and lifestyle.

During its implementation, positive changes among workers have happened since they can only focus on their assignments regardless of working time. In particular, those who have to communicate with partners in other countries have obtained significant effects. Task-oriented working, as a result, boosts productivity and staff morale.

“There have been no official working hours since I particularly have to have communicated with foreign partners in other nations. Therefore, the scheme increases my work efficiency. Now I can adjust my schedules depending on my tasks,” said an official working in the webtoon/webnovel part of the company.

“Our company put forth its utmost effort in helping an upgraded corporate culture take root and focus on performance not on rigid working hours,” said another official.
