SEOUL, Jan. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — Naver has introduced Passkey Login, a new authentication method that allows users to log into their accounts using facial recognition or fingerprints instead of passwords. The move is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance privacy and security.
According to industry sources, Naver recently launched the passkey system to improve user convenience and security. The method enables users to log in within seconds by utilizing biometrics stored on their devices, eliminating the need for password entry. This approach reduces login failures caused by typos and removes the burden of remembering complex passwords.
By replacing traditional passwords—often vulnerable to leaks and breaches—with unique biometric data, the system significantly enhances security.
Initially available on PC and mobile web, Naver plans to expand Passkey Login to its mobile app in the first half of 2025.
Strengthening Account Security
Naver is also advancing its security features to prevent account hijacking. Measures include requiring identity verification for overseas login attempts, real-time notifications for logins from new devices, and two-step authentication that requires pre-approved devices for login approval.
Additionally, Naver continues to operate its Privacy Enhancement Reward (PER) program, a first-of-its-kind initiative in South Korea. The program rewards users who report vulnerabilities or privacy-related issues.
In 2024, the company received 268 reports, with 91 cases rewarded, marking the highest volume to date. The number of reports increased 31% from the previous year, while the number of rewards rose 11%.
A Naver spokesperson stated, “Passkey, as the next-generation login method, is becoming a global trend. We will continue striving to provide users with a more secure and convenient login experience.”
With the implementation of passkey technology and enhanced security measures, Naver is positioning itself at the forefront of digital authentication in South Korea.
