SEOUL, Feb. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – Naver has launched a new subway map platform designed to be more informative of actual geographical features, in collaboration with French architect and map designer Jug Cerovic, said the company in an announcement on February 2.

Subway passengers often find themselves instinctively estimating actual geographical features including real distances while studying subway maps, even though existing subway maps are not designed with those features in mind. To give users a more intuitive experience, Naver’s new subway maps are reshaped to let users know actual distances, and the lay of the land around each station.

Transfer stations on the new maps are also marked with small dots of colors signifying connected subway lines in a more intuitive way. Stations around airports, train stations and bus terminals are marked with notable graphics to let users grasp nearby facility information more easily.

The whole platform is also designed to be friendlier for people suffering from color vision deficiencies, as well as mobile device users. Naver produced maps for each subway line of the Korean metro system. The maps will enter service after being tested for use by individuals with color vision deficiencies.
