SEOUL, June 14 (Korea Bizwire) — Naver Corp., South Korea’s top internet portal operator, said Sunday that its webcomic business topped the sales charts and garnered the most number of users in the Southeast Asian market including Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan.
Naver Webtoon, more commonly known as Line Webtoon in the United States, explained that the average number of monthly users in these three countries exceeded 12 million with the app garnering massive popularity.
Sorted by country, its monthly users in Indonesia reached 6.9 million. In Thailand and Taiwan, the number of monthly users reached 3.5 million and 1.5 million, respectively.
Last month, App Annie on Google Play, a smartphone app for webtoons, garnered the most number of users in all three countries, succeeding in reaching wide webtoon readership.
Naver Webtoon also said it succeeded in securing a source of income by selling daily passes, fast passes, and other services based on the number of users.
Naver Webtoon currently holds the top spot for Google Play’s webtoon sales in Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan.
Tappytoon, a South Korean webtoon webtoon platform developed by Contents First Inc. and invested in by Naver Webtoons, retained second place after Naver Webtoon in the Indonesian and Thai markets.
