SEOUL, July 16 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean online gaming giant NCSOFT Corp. has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI)-based translation engine for the first time in the country’s gaming industry.

Users can now access real-time translation service between Korean and English on ‘Purple Talk,’ a messenger service available on ‘Purple,’ NCSOFT’s gaming platform.

The new feature supports translation for everyday conversations, as well as jargon and slang used among gamers, the company explained.

The translation feature has been added to Taiwanese and Japanese versions. The Taiwanese version offers translations for Chinese, Korean, and English, while the Japanese version translates Japanese, Korean, and English.

The company plans to add more languages to allow people from various countries to join the game with ease.

“This is a new milestone for us. We have developed a technology that can translate in-game conversations in real-time,” said Lee Yeon-soo, who spearheaded the project to develop the AI translation engine.
