Neglected Bikes a Gift of Mobility for Teenagers

CHUNCHEON, Apr. 12 (Korea Bizwire)Chuncheon in Gangwon Province has been making progress by fixing bicycles left unattended in public places and providing them as a means of transportation for young people.

The city has been working on a project to donate its neglected bicycles since 2013. The project involves collecting bicycles left unattended in public places and recycling them and donating them to places where bicycles are needed.

The purpose of the project is to reduce fine dust and boost power-free, carbon-free transportation.

A total of 1,034 unauthorized bicycles were collected and 975 of them had been recycled as of last year. Of the recycled bicycles, 805 were donated to teenagers.

The city also plans to distribute 152 bicycles to teenagers for free this year. When local schools submit applications for donations, the city discusses when donations will be made to each school.

An official from Chuncheon reported that the project will not only reduce fine dust but also create a bicycle-friendly city. The city also plans to expand its project so bicycles can be donated to more teenagers.
