ANSAN, Oct. 29 (Korea Bizwire)A local government will push for a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) project to prevent crimes in areas with dense multi-family housing.

CPTED is an advanced crime prevention method that prevents crime through environmental design principles used to discourage crime and promote building safety.

The city of Ansan in Gyeonggi Province said Monday it has carried out a project to apply special mineral paint to 35 general housing units vulnerable to crimes due to poor external environment, such as the aging of buildings in the city.

Although it is not easily erased when it is smeared on hands or clothes, it is highly effective in detecting criminals because it is not viewable by the naked eye, but it can be identified with special UV-radiation equipment.

Along with the painting of special materials, the city will set up warning signs indicating that special paint has been applied, preventing crimes and boosting residents’ sense of safety.

In addition, various other projects are under way in Ansan, including the installation of a female safety unmanned parcel pickup center and the inspection of illegal filming cameras, to create a city safe from crimes.
