Netflix and Disney+ See MAU Rise Thanks to Popularity of ‘Reborn Rich’

SEOUL, Jan. 16 (Korea Bizwire)The usage of online streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+ increased after they aired the local cable channel JTBC’s corporate drama “Reborn Rich” that was massively popular last year, data showed Sunday.

According to Mobile Index, the big data analysis unit of local data tracker IGAworks, the number of monthly active users (MAU) of the Netflix app reached about 11.6 million last month, up about 700,000 in a single month thanks to the popularity of the Korean TV series.

Another streaming platform Tving’s MAU also increased by about 600,000 to 4.89 million last month, while Disney+ saw its MAU rise by 240,000 to 1.95 million, the highest since January 2022.

In contrast, other over-the-top (OTT) media that didn’t offer “Reborn Rich” saw their MAU decline last month.

For instance, homegrown OTT services Wavve and Watcha saw their MAU reach 4.08 million and 810,000, respectively, down 110,000 and 5,000 compared to a month ago.
