SEOUL, April 4 (Korea Bizwire) – The number of South Korean college students in the Netherlands – seeking either a full degree or in student exchange or internship programs – has more than doubled in the 2016 and 2017 academic year compared to three years ago.
According to data compiled by local education institution Nuffic, the number of South Korean students in the country currently stands at 591.
The number of South Korean students remained almost stagnant from 2006 to 2013. There were 268 South Korean students in the 2006 – 2007 academic year, 271 in 2008 – 2009, 257 in 2011 – 2012, and 289 in 2013 – 2014. But in 2014 – 2015, it rose to 316, then to 421 in 2015 – 2016.
There are more than 112,000 overseas students studying at Dutch colleges, with a majority from Germany at 22,189. Chinese (4,347) and Italian (3,347) students followed suit.
Apart from Chinese, Indians (1,525) and Indonesians (1,504) were most common from Asian countries, followed by Koreans.

The company also noted that art programs at Dutch colleges are particularly popular amongst international students, adding that 28.1 percent of students enrolled at the Amsterdam University of the Arts are non-locals.
In 2015, South Korea had 214,696 college students studying abroad.
