SEOUL, Oct. 20 (Korea Bizwire)On October 19, the Ministry of Environment issued a statement outlining planned revisions to the Clean Air Conservation Act that would extend emissions standards for manufactured cars to diesel engine locomotives.

Provided the revisions are passed in the National Assembly, this would mark the first piece of legislation regulating the environmental impact of rolling stock. In Europe and the United States, standards limiting emissions from train engines are already being enforced.

The revisions require all newly manufactured or imported diesel engine locomotives from 2019 onwards to meet emissions standards. The Ministry of Environment intends to refer to similar regulations set in foreign countries as a reference for the exact emissions standards, which will be included as an addendum afterwards.

More information regarding the proposed revisions can be found at the Ministry of Environment’s website.
