SEJONG, June 18 (Korea Bizwire)Starting from the end of this year, drone companies engaged in drone making, selling or rentals will be obliged to inform customers about no-fly zones and times through their websites.

The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) announced on Wednesday that the amended notice of fair labelling and advertising would take effect from December.

Under the amended notice, those engaged in drone making, selling or rentals should indicate through their websites a variety of guidelines that drone users have to comply with.

Among such restrictions are no-fly zones and times, as well as actions prohibited during drone flying.

Under the current Aviation Safety Act, it’s prohibited to fly drones at any time from sunset to sunrise. Also prohibited is flying drones in air control zones or areas designated as no-fly zones for military or security concerns.

It’s also banned to fly drones at an altitude of over 150 meters.

Any persons or entities who violate the FTC notice can be fined up to 100 million won (US$82,270).

The amended notice is scheduled to take effect on December 17 after a six-month grace period.

“Drone-related companies tend to advertise mainly the functions of the drones without specifying important information that drone users have to comply with. We hope the amended notice would contribute to preventing drone-related safety accidents,” the FTC said.
