SEOUL, Aug. 16 (Korea Bizwire)Starting this month, all schools must have at least one librarian on staff, according to a newly proposed bill revision that was resolved during a cabinet meeting presided by President Moon Jae-in on August 14 at the Blue House.

The National Assembly revised an existing law in February to make it mandatory for all schools to have librarians working on site.

The government also revised a bill that would see the creation of a sports legacy department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s sports division, aimed at preserving, managing and developing legacies resulting from international sporting events such as the Olympic Games.

In addition, the revised bill states that one additional employee is to be hired to oversee, establish and push forth policies relating to the Korean martial art of taekwondo.

The separate bill seeks to add three hires at the Ministry of Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ main office, nine additional hires at overseas embassies, and 10 extra employees at overseas posts.

The extra manpower will help with affairs relating to cooperation between Korea and ASEAN, India and Southeast Asia.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will also hire two more employees as part of the bill’s measure to strengthen the government’s capacity to move forward with its “New Southern Policy.”
