JEJU, Feb. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — A new observation deck offering panoramic views of Jeju International Airport and coastal waters will be built atop a sewage treatment facility in Jeju City, officials announced on February 19.

The Jeju Water and Sewage Headquarters revealed that the observatory will be built on the integrated exhaust facility of the Jeju Public Sewage Treatment Plant in Dodu-dong, as part of the plant’s modernization project.

The observation deck will be positioned at approximately 45 meters high on the integrated exhaust structure, which stands 50 meters above the coastal road. The exhaust facility, facing the ocean within the treatment plant grounds, will occupy an area of about 400 square meters.

While the integrated exhaust facility is scheduled for completion by the end of this year, the observation deck is expected to open to the public in late 2027.

Visitors to the observatory will enjoy panoramic views of the ocean to the north and clear vistas of the Jeju Airport runway and Hallasan, a shield volcano that covers much of the island, to the south.

The integrated exhaust facility is designed to purify and release gases generated during the sewage treatment process. Officials emphasize that the facility will not produce odors as all gases will be purified to meet appropriate air quality standards before release.

The modernization project at the Jeju Public Sewage Treatment Plant will increase its daily processing capacity from 130,000 tons to 220,000 tons. The project design places sewage treatment facilities underground, with parks planned for the surface level.

Construction began last year and is currently 26% complete, with final completion targeted for 2028.
