INCHEON, Korea, Feb. 28 (Korea Bizwire) – The New York Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), one of world’s best fashion institutes, will offer courses in Korea from March 2017, choosing Incheon for its first foray into the Asian market.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) announced on February 26 that it signed an MoU with FIT and State University of New York Korea (SUNY Korea) to offer a FIT program at the Incheon global campus of SUNY Korea, located in Songdo.
The program is the fourth to be offered at SUNY Korea, including existing courses in technology management, computer science and mechanic engineering. Since 2013, the university has been conducting an annual two-week fashion course, with classes taught by invited FIT faculty members.
FIT, established in 1944 in Manhattan, New York City, is one of the most well regarded fashion schools, and offers practical education integrating art, design, technology and business in the fashion industry. Representatives of famous brands such as Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and David Chu are FIT graduates.
Kim Choon-ho, president of SUNY Korea, said, “It is meaningful that SUNY Korea is launching a FIT program for the first time in Asia. I hope Songdo becomes a global fashion hub.”
An official from IFEZ said, “As it is the first time for the world renowned fashion school to advance into Korea, the school is expected to create a sensational response from the fashion industry and would-be fashion designers. Once the SUNY program opens, demand for the course will rise not only from Korea but also neighboring countries.”
