BUSAN, Sept. 11 (Korea Bizwire) – Crispy laver snacks that will suit the tastes of foreigners are about to be launched.
The Algae Bio Research Center of the National Fisheries Research & Development Institute announced that in collaboration with the Korea Food Research Institute, it has processed dried laver and developed snacks in flavors that foreigners can enjoy. It also applied for a patent.
Flavored and processed Korean laver is famous for its unique scent and appealing taste. However, in order to go global and increase exports, laver products had to expand into snacks or finger food that can accompany drinks.
The newly applied technology fries seasoned laver coated with batter to create a new type of snack. Since the laver easily broke apart, it was hard to make it into the form of a snack, but the problem was solved in the battering process. In addition, honey, pizza and barbeque flavors were added to expand the taste palette.
The Algae Bio Research Center plans to migrate the technology to laver processing businesses and support them so that the product can be sold internationally.
